STORY
Personally, I have a great deal of affection for the Janson farm.
Personally, I have a great deal of affection for the Janson farm.
My very first BoP auction win — and the coffee we used at the Brewers Cup — was a Janson auction lot.
At the time, I remember that auction lot cost nearly 2 million KRW per kilogram.
But it was a truly intuitive, easy-to-read coffee.
No matter who tasted it, that grape-like character came through.
That's right.
Looking back, the defining trait of the Janson farm was that it has so many of these
consumer-friendly coffees.
The aromas are easy to read.
When notes like grape or blueberry are present, that character
tended to show up more easily than with other farms.
(Of course, since it's a large farm, careful selection is essential.)
In today's Panama market, where complex and delicate coffees sell for millions of won,
the Janson farm holds a clear position.
An easy, great-value entry-level geisha.
And on top of that, with the right selection it's a large farm that can yield auction-grade quality.
While Taiwan's Jinglong farm produces less than 100kg of geisha a year,
a place like Janson produces several thousand kilograms of geisha even in a low-yield year.
As a result, the following things happen:
1. With a bit of luck, auction-grade coffee lands on the cupping table.
2. With strong cupping skills, you can bring home coffees like this.
3. Right now the value for money is especially insane.
4. It's one of Panama's named farms.
5. It carries the T2722 geisha originality.
That's why it has produced so many champions.
The value is great, and because the flavors are expressed so intuitively,
it's an excellent choice for competitors to use in competitions.
The four coffees launching today have a flavor spectrum that's just perfect for competition use.
They're all naturals.
Let me try expressing them by the intensity of their fruit flavor.
🍒🍒🍒 #55
The coffee with the most powerful fruit aroma.
There's also a fleeting whisky-like character.
An aroma profile used very often in competitions.
🍒 #207
A contemporary-style Panama geisha where fruit and floral aromas coexist to a degree.
🌸 #112
Of the coffees introduced today, this one gives off the most floral aroma.
Highly recommended.
🍒🍒 #135
A wonderful lot with truly clean, well-expressed fruit notes.
I'd want to drink it every day.
This year I was truly lucky.
Since it was a period of sharply declining yields, I heard that buyers who visited in March–April couldn't purchase much Panama coffee at all.
Fortunately, I visited early and was able to buy a great many fine coffees from Janson as well.
